Long story short as I can. I've just noticed my filter isn't working. I've switched an airstone on and hope it helps some. I have a new rio that hasn't been used yet. I've put sand in and that's all. Can I put the filter sponges from my dead Fluval 2 into my rio filter and fill it up and transfer? If so, does it matter where in the rio filter I put them? Please help!

yes, just move them across if you cant get the old filter started, see your other thread for my advice on how to do that.

Yes you must add those mature filter media in the Rio. You may do some 20% water changes per week till water chemistry is back to normal.

Moreover, any media that won't fit you can either let float in the tank or put into a media bag in the tank. Eventually the colonies on the floating/bagged media will transfer over to the filter or other hard surface in the tank where the food supply and O supllies are better. Basically the newer spots should encourage more bacteria growth even as the old floating media become less hospitable and its bacteria begins to die back.

I'll check the water now and hopefully all will be well. :look:

All is good Pkppv. Ammonia-0, nitrite-0 and nitrate-.10 :)
