I always liked snails but they never seem to last, I bought 2 for my 25 fresh water tank, They are in their wil a angel, 3 glass cat fish and small algea eater, I notice one snail always floating at the tp of the tank, Then every once in a while the shell will be at the bottom, I never see it out, now it's floating again.
Why would it die, Could it be their isn't enough for it to eat?

Could be not much to eat in there, or it could be that angelfish quite often like eating snails. To find out if a snail's dead or not take it out & sniff - if it's dead it will stink to high heaven. Otherwise, it's probably alive - some snails just seem to like floating, as I've recently discovered with my guy. If you don't think there's enough in there for the snails to eat (chances are there isn't, since they don't eat some types of algae, & your algae eaters would be taking care of most of it anyways), skin & blanch a slice of zucchini & chuck that in - my guy loves it, not sure what else they like.

HTH a bit, goodluck :)

Slightly off topic: I have a snail that loves to go to the bubble area and let go and swoosh, flip and tumble...then he s l o w l y crawls back up again to do it all over. I keep on thinking he is dead too when he is at the bottom and not moving.

Queengumby: thanks for the tip on checking for that! The other day, I was ready to toss him as he didn't move all day! lol

i almost did the same thing once. i swear it was a day and a half and everytime i looked the snail was in the same exact place. my hubby told me just to wait a few more hours and sure enough the snail got his butt in gear a few minutes later.
