It all started off with one day deciding to get some fish. I bought a 10g aquarium set up, one COLUMBAIN SHARK, one angle fish, and two Bristle-nosed catfish.

My problem: The columbian.

Obviously my 10g will not be big enough for my columbian, so I decided that withing a few months I will buy a 36/18/18" 40(ish) gallon breeder style tank.

Even though the minimum for this type of shark is usually posted online as 75g, I figure that since its a breeder tank it will be enough room to swim. Am I correct?

I just recently figured out that this was a brackish fish. How much salt can freshwater fish stand?

I also will be getting 2 more baby columbians, (is that too much to have all three + the other fish for 3-4 months?)

Thanks, appreciate the help (if I get any..).

Did you let the tank cycle? And the tank is extremly to small for angels!!! They get up to 6 inches long and 8 inches tall. So the minimum size tank is a 30 or 75 gallon tank. And since all those fish are in the wrong size tank, just a suggestion, you could return all those fish until you get a 75 or bigger size tank.

The fish you have with it wont take any salt. To be honest the tank isnt big enough for 1 of your fish never mind all of them.
There really isnt much you can put in a 10 gallon apart from a few guppies or tetras.
Can you take the columbians back to the shop until you get a bigger tank and set it up just for the columbians?

heres a link that i got from google

Its always best to research a fish before you buy it.

Hmmm...about the angel, I dont know what to do. ( I cant return any (they were on sale))

I lll put my questions that need answering in number form

1. How much salt can freshwater fish stand?

2. I also will be getting 2 more baby columbians, (is that too much to have all three + the other fish for 3-4 months?)

3. I will buy a 36/18/18" 40(ish) gallon breeder style tank.
will that be big enough for 3 columbians

4. What should I do about the angel fish?

EDIT: Black angel, cant I just keep 3 columbians in the ten gallon for 2-4 months?

then get the tank from #3?

I guess I will have to kill the angel? (Ive allready searched for a home)

(I dont want to kill it either.)

If you dont want the angel or the plec then theres a for sale forum at the bottom where you can see if someone will take them for you. You will need to say where you are from.

1. None.
2. Yes. You will seriously overload your tank.
3. No. They will need a minimum four foot tank when they are small.
4. See above. Or use your paper to advertise. Put ads up in your local store. There must be more than one pet store where you live.

As ive already said buy the sharks when you have bought and cycled the new tank, but even that tank will be too small for the fish you want.

When you say when they are small, do you mean it would need to be bigger when they mature?

EDIT: Wouldent the sharks growth be a bit stunted anyhow?

According to the link they grow to a foot long so i cant imagine three fish that size in a 3 foot tank, can you?

Maybe 3 or 4 inches long then you would need something a lot bigger.

Unforntunatly I see your point

Dont go, let me measure somthing really quick

I bearly have enough room for the 3 foot tank... bye bye shark...You sure his growth wont stunt to around 6-8 inches. I can imagine a 6-8 inch fish in a 3' tank...

EDIT: I guess I dont like bieng told no, but what if I only had 2, or even one?

Its not fair to stunt a fish to fit a tank. The whole point in caring for a fish is to see it grow to maturity and a decent size.
I know most fish never attain the natural size but you should house it to at least its captive size.
Sorry, but to keep the sharks you are going to need a huge tank.
The angel and the plec would be ok in that size tank.

Ill ecept a no this time...I wanted it to get big enough to eat feader fish...

Would a 30g be okay for an angel?

And could you help me mabye get a good set up for a 30-40g and my ten gallon when the angel and shark leave?

BTW, what is a plec?

a pleco is a plecostumos fish or suckerfish as some people call them. And they get up to 2 feet long.

A plec is a name given to certain catfish, the bristlenose is one.

For the 30 gallon after you have cycled it first you can have the angel, the two bristlenoses but you will need to feed them algae wafers, cucumber, zucchini as there wont be any algae to eat.
Then you can pick a few more fish to go in, that is up to you, but it will have to be small fish, such as black phantom and red phantom tetras.
For the ten you can have a divided male betta tank. Shell dwelling cichlids would be nice.
If you want brackish then i think you can get gobies or puffers, but im not sure on that.
I'm sure there are people out there who will post and give you some good ideas on what you can have.
the choice is greater without the sharks and you could maybe have a red tailed black shark instead, though it wont eat live fish.
Its getting late for me and im going to go now so good luck with choosing your fish and remember to google first before buying.
