I know that bettas aren't schooling fish so they are used to being alone...but I really want to find my betta a companion...i have a 3g tank..so maybe if i get a divder and den have a female on the other side? So they can look at each other and stuff?

No...... in a 3 gallon tank, don't put anything else in with your betta.
MAYBE a shrimp or 2, or maybe 1 snail, but nothing else.
Do NOT divide it. 3 gallons is a good size for ONE betta. Trust me, your betta is just fine being by itself. Every day you can hold a mirror up to the tank so he can flare at it for a little bit. That should be enough to make him feel tough and happy.

I wouldn't add another betta to the tank, could stress your current betta out way to much. Especially if they can see each other constantly. You could try adding certain kinds of shrimp, or snail.
