Ok so I've been keeping fish for a while but had to take a brake with my drumming and what not. So I just wanted to run by you guys to see if my tank is in good shape....

Ok:
PH:7.8  (that's really high, I'm going to lower it)
Amonia:0ppm
Nitrite:0ppm
Nitrate:6-9ppm

ok So that's what my tank is at. Thanks for the help,
Daveo B)

Don't mess with your PH, 7.8 seems fine for the average tropical tank. You'll have more problems trying to lower it.

Yep, I agree. No need to mess with your pH - unless you intend breeding wild Discus or other such fish with specific requirements. Most fish these days quite happily adapt to that. My tap pH is anything up to around 8.4 and with no ill effects on the fish.

Did you do a fishless cycle?

Kindda. I've had this tank for a while, so I can't really remember. lol

I think I did do a fishless cycle

Hi Daveo :)

Do you have fish now, or are you going to have to cycle it again.

I have two fish in it.....a Rapheal Catfish and an OTO catfish, I had more fish in it but they died. but that was a while ago. So I don't have to cycle it again.:)

Hi Daveo :)

Welcome back to TFF! :flowers:

I only asked that because I noticed in your profile that it said you don't have any. Looks like it's going to be time to update it soon anyway.

As long as you add your new fish slowly enough to let the beneficial bacteria catch up to the new bio-load, you should be fine. Just to be on the safe side, it might be a good idea to check if your tank water has the same pH as your tap water since this is the water your fish will probably be in at your local lfs.

What kind of fish are you thinking about getting this time?

Well I really just want to have lots of plants and a nice shoal of tetras.....like 10-15. :)
