Well I got a surprise yesterday after I did a water change in the 10gallon tank holding the platy moms and platy fry along with 1 killifish.
As I was sucking out the water, out pops a small little guy from under the fake log!
The rest of the fry are over an inch long and this lil fella is about half as big as them.

I know exactly who he/she is though!

A while back when the fry were well.. smaller (duh heh)... I had put the larger ones into the 10gallon b/c the 5 gallon just wasn't enough to house them all any longer.
I eventually put in 3 more fry into the tank, but I had forgotten that killifish are predatory towards smaller fish.. and caught it harassing one of the fry. So I took 2 of them out and couldn't find the little itty bitty one so I had just assumed sadly that it had been eaten.
And well.. come to find out just yesterday... over a month later.. this little guy lived and is absolutely gorgeous!
This little one is smaller than the rest b/c it along with 2 others were born a few weeks after.

He/she is a skittish little thing but I'm going to try to get some pics tomorrow. I don't want to move around anything to force him out though so.. pics might not happen. But he does come out during feeding time to grab something quickly and go back and hide.. so hopefully I can get a shot or 2 when he does that :)
He's so beautiful though. The other fry are a mix of light blue/grey and darker blue coloring.. and this one has a brownish tint to his fins and is almost black in color. We plan on giving away the fry to a LFS, but I think I'm going to keep this little one

I just had to share b/c it shocked me that this little teeny tiny fry managed to live.

Wow that is incredible! :D

They do seem to be amazing at hiding but managing to avoid a killifish is no mean feat! Not surprised you're keeping him, I'd be the same. Can't wait to see pics :D

excellent, you have to keep winners like that, they deserve it :)

It's amazing how that happens.

I once had four guppy fry in a breeder which tipped up into a tank or gourami and danios. My danios were crazy so I thought they were gonners but a couple of weeks later and I found two of them! There was only one plant in there for them to hide in.

sounds good, most fry are tougher than we think, i had that happed to one in a tank with a betta
