Hey guys and gals!

My partner signed up here a few weeks back and has asked me to do so too, seeing as i've just bought myself a new 4 foot clear seal tank with loads of bits and pieces. Just in the setting up stage at the moment & reading some advice from here to get things started (great forum btw), but will hopefully have some things in there shortly.

Anyway, quick bit of help needed and sorry if this question shouldn't be in this section, but the clearseal tank i have (and hood) doesnt come with any lighting. Im looking to grow a few plants aswell as generally lighting it up to see what they're up to.

Has anyone got any recommendations of things to buy? I have the thin metal lid on my tank, which has no clips or mounts or anything for lights. I dont want the heat melting the metal, or falling into the water etc!!

Cheers people

Alan

hey arnold. Plants generally need 1-4 watts per gallon of lighting so if you have a 60 gallon tank you will need probably at least 120 watts of lighting for the easier to grow plants. Also, you may need a CO2 injection system as well as some fertilizer in the water.

I would ask in the plants and planted tank forum.

As far as mounting your lighting, if you have already invested in the tank etc. I would try to find a clear plastic hood that will fit. Or you could cut plexiglass yourself and then get a light strip

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I have already purchased a hood for the tank at a cost of around £45. I could probably take it back, but i quite like it :) If i cant get any sort of lighting to work with it then i may consider buying another hood, but there must be something i could purchase for this one!

Anyway, i've attached some pictures of it so far, still got a way to go!

It's got a clear seal 700 filter, clear seal 9903 dual outlet air pump & a hagen elite 200 heater. I've tested the PH and its currently 8, so just waiting for some PH down to arrive through the post to sort that out :)

They're not that clear, quite a lot of reflection (i cleaned the glass!) and i dont have a background as yet. Im using black records from the shelves below to see how clear the water is :)

ok forget lights as the tank has decided to spring a leak, which means draining it all out and removing the gravel :(

Very disapointed this problem has arisen
