Hermit Shells

What size shells will I need for hermits (as they get bigger and change shells)?

I don't have any yet... I'm working on setting the tank up now. I am hoping to be able to get some shells before I get the crabs, that way I won't have to run all over the place looking shells when I buy them. I was thinking of grabbing one of those bags of mixed shells at the craft stores. Would that be a good idea?

some lfs sell shells or even bags of shells. i do not know if the ones from craft stores are good enought, i never tried them.

I know for land hermits, when they change shells they usually change to a shell with an opening half an inch wider than the one they had.

Depends on what species of hermits you get. The dwarf red and blue tri-colour wont need anything more than about a 2-2.5cm shell. I have common algae eaters and they are in shells about 5cm long. Wait till you get the crabs and then just get some shells that are about a 1cm bigger. Search around and you can find some really interesting ones.
