drew up a quick sketch of what i plan to do...my main question is would plumbing the uv sterlizer directly into the return line from the sump work if i used a 45 degree tee (like the one pictured below) with inlets 1.5" x 1.5" x 3/4"? my reasoning for this is id rather try and get the sterlized water out of the sump and into the tank as efficiently as possible instead of dumping it back into the sump and risk re-sterlizing already sterilized water continuously!?

That will not work unfortunately :/

Trying to supply what ultimately becomes a single line with two powerheads isnt a good idea. Remember, you are sterilizing the whole system. So while yes, the chamber of the system where the UV sterilizer outputs to will have the cleanest water, as long as it draws off any point in the system you end up sterilizing the entire system. I run mine off a little T fitting that comes off my main sump return and goes back to the sump.

so you suggest putting a t-fitting on one of the overflow drains and using gravity/overflow pressure to run the water through the uv sterilizer then have it pour out into the sump?

Actually its easier to do it on the pump side not the drain side. My setup goes, Pump->Check Valve->Union Coupler->Shutoff valve->T fitting->then either up to the tank, or UV Sterilizer->Needle Valve->Sump
