just as suspected my dad isnt even bothering to find an RV for the move, there goes my summer, my parrot and my plan on moving the fish

is there any way to move
5 gold barbs
4 boesemani rainbows
5 praecox rainbows
1 oto
1 stripped rafael catfish
1 balloon molly
a 55 gallon fish tank
10 amazon swords
40lbs of sand
from the state of California to fulton county Georgia?

As I'm from england Im not too sure about the distance from California to Georgia but some LFS will look after your fish/plants for a while maybe with some rent fee otherwise you will need insulated boxes specially made for transporting fish that shoukd be avaidable from your LFS or even eBay.

These will only hold a couple of fish so you might need a few. Depending on the distance tropical plants can be transported in damp newspaper and wrapped in bubble wrap.

The sand can be bagged up in anything really but you would want it to hold water as you will need to add some of your tank water to keep the good bacteria alive

How much time is involved between the fish being removed from their tank & getting back into a tank at the other end?

i was thinking that but after asking my dad if he went to the new lfs he said no, typical :shout:

would i be able, if i got those styrofoam conatainers be able to have and extra 2 to put the sand in?

we are driving as its eaither that or i dont go

so....3,946km distance and it can range from 3 days to a week.

Oh thats puts a spanner in the works a bit.

Your only option is to use the foam containers I hear roads are smooth in America (unlike ours) so it should be okay, you would want to try and do it as quickly as possible to be honest. Sand will be fine in anything aslong as its got a bit of water to keep it moist.

after telling my dad about the # well need that i got from lfs last time he told me "i guess well try to find an RV.."

imo much easier plus we can actually do stuff instead of drive for 10 hours in a car doing nothing but stare at the boxes lol

because then we can fit the fish in spare 20 gallon tanks on the floor andwe can have the filter and heaters running and they wont be as stressed

i dont even know why he didnt even bother to check for one yet lol

That worked out well, congrats! Rather than risk a tank with water in a moving vehicle, I would pick up what is commonly known to college kids as a keg tub; http

The tank is not designed to take the stress of water moving, in a moving vehicle, you don't want to risk a leak. I have a tub just like in the picture, green, thanks to my kids adventures when they were younger. They are fish safe, as I have used mine for holding fish during fishroom rearrangements, and only cost around $15-$20. If a home improvement outfit doesn't carry them any large liquor store that sells kegs of beer will.

well the RV was the original plan but my dad has not done anything to try and get one, so he told me yo ask you guys an alternative, but after i told him its gonna be more stressful on everyone and all the work he just said hell try and find one

though i know himso hes gonna do it at the last minute and ill end up probably sellling my stock :shout:

Another alternative would be to contact a shop at the final destination, and tell them the situation. They may be able to hold the fish for you if you ship them, until you arrive. Another idea would be to contact a local club either where you are at now, to have them ship the fish to you after holding until you arrive at the new place, or one to hold the fish near the new place until you arrive.

well now hes asking if we could ship everything since hes back and forth and he'll set up a 100 gal for my fish and 200 gal for my salt fish and then we mail the fish to the new house when the time comes and the tanks will be ready for them.

sounds awseome but idk how to ship my fish lol

the tanks we were gonna get anyways as my main tanks for my new fish room :hooray:
