Heniochus Butterfly

We have a heniochus butterfly without the long dorsal fin. It must have been damaged in shipping or in fighting with another fish in the store. Will its fin grow back and if yes, how long does that typically take?

It really depends on how badly damamged it is. A photo would be of great use for this. I would say that if its only the filimentous membrane then it will regrow but its its actually the boney cartilage that forms the spines then it probably wont regrow.
You never know for sure of course.. the female anthias can grow a spined dorsal and change into a male so perhaps your fish can regrow also. Iwould say though that i dont think it will in this case. :/

I would say no :/

It might grow back slightly but i dont think it will ever regain its fully length
