Brichardi, Julies, Yellow Labs, Kenya cichlid. Actually there are a good few choices for your tank if you want africans. The only thing limiting it would be that it is a coner tank and it most likely doesn't have a lot of surface area.

You don't have to do Malawi fish. There are 2 other lakes in the region :) The problem with corner tanks is that they aren't long enough to house large fish even though the volume may be generous. Instead they are deep and broad. This limits you on the size of fish that you can comfortably house.

I am sure some other members will hop in here and provide you with options, many of them with a better understanding of african cichlids than I.

African Cichlids usually only occupy up to a foot or so of water above the substrate, so having a tall tank is going to be pointless for African Cichlids.

African Cichlids prefer longer tanks, where they can utilize the larger footprint.

I am sure that there are Cichlids that will do fine in that tank, but I do not know of any off the top of my head.

thanks guys, i also have a 30gal long tank with my angel fish in it, would it be better if i switched tanks and made the 55 gal corner tanks, my angel tank and the 30gal long my African Cichlid tank. or is 30 gal not enough?

The 55 gallon would make a nice comunnity tank with a few Angels in it and mayne some type of schooling fish, like rummy nose tetras. If you went with the African 30 gallon you could get Brichardi, Shellies, or Kribs. There are more options then these three as well.

The angel would prefer the 55 tall, providing you can find something to fill the 30gal. There would be alot of other fish you could put with the angels as well. Maybe ask in the Cichlids section as to what you can put in a 30 gallon tank?

A 30 gallon tank is a bare minimum to house African Cichlids. That is the size tank I have(look in profile) but I am moving the fish to a 55 once they get bigger.

If you do go with a 30 gallon Cichlid setup, make sure to provide PLENTY of hiding places(caves..etc..),and you probably only want about 3 to 4 fish in there. The only reason I have more than that is because they are moving out here soon to the 55.

Anyways, you also want 3 females to 1 male ratio, this will help with aggression as well.

Labidochro Caeruleus Cichlids and Sciaenochromis fryeri (Electric Blue) Cichlids will be just fine in a 30 gallon, provided you follow what I said above on tank setup and what not.
