a buddy of mine has been real interested in my aquariums i have. and he is looking to get into his own for his basement.

whats the best advice we could give him to start out on and what are some basic questions i could ask to get going on what kinda set up were lookin at?

I would say, if you have a book on fish that gave you some help when you were starting, you could lend it to him. You coul also give him the adress to this website. If he doesn't want either the book nor the adress to the forum, you could go with him while he's choosing his fish, and ask him some questions about his tank so you can give him the proper advice on what fish to get.

Tell him to read as much as he can. Research is the key to sucessful fishkeeping.

thank you..

in the long run he would like to keep a few mono's and other brackish fish..

i told him to start out freshwater and he could later on slowly convert it into brackish set up.

he likes the idea of having a natural sand bottom ( i hate coloured gravel to :D )

i told him that he should consider starting with atleast a 50 gallon..

how much of a price difference would you say there is for every 10 gallons.. just wondering cuz i have about as much money into my 20 gallon then i have into my 55
