One of my Malawis has been attacked pretty bad and is still alive but a bit lethargic.

I think all he would need is to be moved on his own for a bit but the problem is that we've nowhere to move him to.

The only thing I can think of is to put him in a bucket with some of the water from the main tank and we have a spare heater but no filter but I thought maybe an airstone to keep the water oxygenated?

Would that be OK so long as I swap the water tomorrow?

Sorry to hear this, do you have any of them plastic toy containers you could put him in, if he's bad add some melafix to the water as well, hope he pulls through, good luck.

we've got a 10l bucket (about 3gal uk). I was thinking we could put him in there with the spare heater to keep him warm but wasn't sure. Do we need anything to make bubbles in there for oxygenation or not?

Thanks for the quick reply by the way!

Yes add an airstone for extra aeration if you have one, if he has to be in more than a day, you will have to do daily water changes with not having a filter, also make sure he can't jump out ,good luck.

how's the fish doing.

As good as new
We filled the 'water change' bucket with aquarium water, two rocks for shelter, a spare heater, an airstone turned on low. Then put him in. We then covered the bucket in cling film (cerang wrap for the U.S Posse) pierced that several times, fed him, then covered the lot in a dark towel, and left him for 24 hours, checking him periodically. The fish is now ok and is now back in the main tank with his chums.

Success

Thanks for asking
Rich
