I was changing Song Shu's water and I placed him next to another male. They started flaring at eachother and I noticed that there was a spot in his tail that had no tail in it! Before his tail had been full. Is this finrot?

Hi Hsieyun,

Song Shu might have blown his tail as a result of over activity, or bit his own tail. It is also possible that he's got fin rot.

Blown, torn or ragged tails are also prone to fin rot if the water quality is poor because an opportunistic infection can occur.

MelaFix® should be able to fix this. How well the caudal heals will depend on the extent of the damage. Watch for any redness. Redness indicates a serious tail infection and Song Shu might need something stronger (e.g. Myxazin®).

:)

Edit: Keep the water clean and stop the flaring exercise until the tail has healed.
