hi Im new here and to tropical fish. I need help! I was feeding my fish yesterday when I noticed two tiny fish in the filter. I have them out now and seperated but I haven't a clue what to do next or how long to keep them seperated for. My tank has a mixture of sliver, gold and dalmation mollies in it. I only have them a few weeks so it was a shock to see the little ones. Can anyone please give me some advice and help?

Feed them powdered flake - don't be surprised if their parents eat them and don't worry if they do. You'll have plenty more in future.

Also, if you are very new to fish, read the link in my signature about cycling. It's essential you know about this. Lastly, mollies need to be kept in a ratio of 2 females to every males (in case you didn't know) and each grow to 4 inches. Assuming you have about 7 fish (just a guess) you need at least a 30 gallon tank. The guideline is one inch of (adult size) fish per gallon of water and keep in mind that taller tanks have a smaller surface area so hold less fish (just in case you have a hexagonal tank).

hey thanx. My boyfriend recently got a30 gallon tank...i think! and hasn't gotten around to putting fish in it yet so right now the two are in that. i had no intentions of breeding the fish at all they were just as pets kinda thing so do i still have to keep the male with the female or can i seperate them out?i was goin to put the females into this other tank when the young were old enough to survive with them. is that ok?

my mollies gave birth the day after we bought them 7 littel ones but sadly i found out they where brackish water fish after they all died :-(
