hi could anyone help!!! i have brown floating debris in my fish tank. i am not sure what this is, it only appeared after i took the cabomba plants out becouse they had started to over grow the fish tank. know there seems to be brown stuff floating around in the tank and it is settling all over everything! i have done regular water changes twice a week for last two weeks, and although it has subsided a bit its still there and my filter does'ent seem to be clearing it my fish seem to be fine and my plants are growing fine too it just looks a bit ugly!!! what can i do to get rid of this stuff!! thanks chris

It's probably diatoms. When you took the cabomba out it disturbed the nutrient balance in the tank, i.e. the cabomba was 'eating' the nutrients that kept the diatoms at bay. Give it time and it will go away on its own as the remainder of your plants grow and soak up the excess nutrients.

thanks for advice will the diatoms harm my fish? also any advice on how to sex my pencil fish they are beckford pencil fish

Diatoms are harmless to your fish. If they are covering ornaments etc., then remove them and just wash them off.

Beckfordi males are generally slimmer and more colourful than the females, but only as mature fish.
