I haven't posted on here in a while!

My tank was fully stocked and all was well, however recently I've started to loose my Neon Tetras!

I keep finding them stuck behind my filter...(its an Elite Stingray 15).

There are two small holes in the back that I presume suck water into the pump and this is where I find them...I assumed they were dying and the bodies were ending up in here, however the other night I found one stuck and still alive...I freed the fish and its been happily swimming and eating for a few days...I've noticed that I was a tetra down tonight and behold, he was stuck in the filter...still alive but too far gone to save!

Has anybody had any problems like this before? I'm not sure what to do now tbh...I've gone from 9 neons to 4... I need to restock but am unsure whether to stock with fewer larger fish (maybe Rosy tetras to increase my school size...or maybe a different variety...I've also considered buying a new filter and restocking with neons as they were the orignal reason for me buying tropical setup??

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

ahhh no!

i have no advice sorry...but i seen someone put a stocking over the filter to stop fish being sucked in...dont know if this is the right thing to do...but it spung to my mind xx
hope no more get funneled in xx

Normally I would say that the fish were dead or dying and just got sucked in, but I have heard of people having exactly the same problem, so I do think it's a problem with the filter design.

I would get a new filter; Stingrays are a bit rubbish in all honesty...apart from the fish getting stuck, there's hardly any room for media in there.

How big is your tank?

Its a 60ltr tank...

dimensions are 60cm L x 30cm W x 35cm H

The Fluval U2 would do your tank very nicely.

You're welcome :)

Don't forget to put the media from the Stingray into your new filter so you don't lose all your good bacteria :good:
