Help! Ok. It is roughly twenty six days since I got my platy she is now, huge, like a balloon, I think shes pregnant.

No shops will be open now until tuesday. Help me! Wha can I do to separate her from the others? I aint ready for this, i dont know enough....how many fry can she have up to? um, what shall i feed them? after shes had the fry shall i take her out?? Help! Any tips will be VERY helpful.

Please reply ASAP.. i'm terrified :-(

Calm down now, the fish is the one that's pregnant.
First do you have any other tanks avalable? I'll assume not then you have two choices. Separate mom from the rest of the fish or let mom have the babies in the tank and then net the fry to a separate area. Do you have a breeding net or trap or can you get one off a friend? If not do you have a large net that you can suspend in the tank or a large jar that you can float in the tank until you can get one of the above on tuesday? Lots of things will work in the short term you just have to pick which way you want this to happen and then make it work. Platies are generally 28 days but i have seen them go as long 32-34 days. So you may not have anything to worry abouot before tuesday anyway. HTH and good Luck let us know how you, Mom and the fry make out. :)

hi! my platy is preggo, too! well at least she looks like it shes got a huge belly and you can kinda see the gravid spot. she has been like this for about month and a half! i decided not to buy a breeding trap, i will just see what happens and if its something not good then next time i will buy a breeding trap, it won't be a long time before she will get pregnant again! that's what you should do, just let her have babies in the normal tank since you ve got no choice anyway! and then you can scoop them into a jar or something! bit if babies will get eaten or something i know its sad but don't worry she will have more!! :)

Does the gravid spot appear later in pregnancy?

Today I am going to see a friend to see if she can lend me one if shes even got one, any body know where i can get a pic of a pregnant platy?

I've already decided, if she is preggers -- the males r going back to the store, the last thing anyone needs is to have the same situation.. plys you should now, i have only had my fish for twenty seven days, this is my first tank in tropicals too.

Thanx, though!! To speaktruthfully i am sh*te scared of the fry getting eaten more than anything.. i will try my best... hopefully shes not preggers :)

Sorry to say that might not do any good. Apparently the females store up the sperm and get automatically re-impregnated.

Hi

Just like the above post taking the male back wont help platies can store sperm and use to have between 4 - 6 broods of fry so sorry that wont help.

If the tank is well planted then you should get some of the fry but not that many the best method is a seperate nursey tank where the mother can give birth and then the fry be raised until of a size where they can either jion the main tank or passed onto follow fishkeepers

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Ok, now, my guppies are chasing her around? is this to do with teh pregnancy? I seen a friend today but she hasnt got one, i have no idea what to do now... i give up... it certainly isnt ideal for a just-turned- fourteen y/o to have to do this

:/ you just got to get used to it, i bred my first fish at 10. now im 14 and its a lot easier to recognize things and what not. the guppies are hoping she drops the fry so they could eat them.

yo im 14 too...ive been breeding plats since i was 8...i just let the fry come out and let the fish eat the fry and save a few for future breeding....nothin to panic about

lol i was i was 10 not 14. elementry was the best and i didnt realize it!

Thank you everyone.. Oh no I am not letting her get the fry eaten by my little sods (my guppies), i hope she can hold on for a few hours, It is just that, what if shes not due to have the fry within the next few days, i feel mean keeping her in a breeding net or breeding trap (haven't had chance to get one yet, so i don't know what she'll be in. What is recommended?

I hope she drops them today, i am gettign excited now that i actually know a bit more.... today i am geting a tank divider hopefully, if they have one to fit my tank

Anyway cheers dudes, ttyl x
