Hi, i have a 27 Gallon tank, at the moment i have 5 mixed platies, 2 black mollies, 4 red eye tetra, and a 4-5'' common plec. In the past i have been losing jusrt the platies as they are the smalest, and been buying more only to find them die again :(. And i am sick of it and feel very sorry for them. Is this the plec which is kiling them? Or the other fish?

And the tank was cycled beforehand yes, and my water parasm are fine Ammo 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 and ph is 7.2 ish.

Or is my tank too small fior these fish?

Hlep appreciated :thanks:

Do any of the platys look thin or bloated.
What does it look like when they go to the toilet.
Check there anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any fish have sunken in bellys.

Any symtoms to go on.
How long do you climatise new fish for.

All of their bellys look normal, but some of the platies are a little more fat than others, none of them are skinny or anything. Their anus's look normal, well what i could make of it, it was kinda hard to tell wiht the sunset platies though. But as i said they look and seem healthy, but its juts when i wake up i see them dead, so im assum, ing some sort of canabalism is happening over night. As for their poop, its long and brown not sure whther thats normal or not, but ive noticed on a few occasions it stays attached to them, and doesnt to the bottom, it also gets very long sometimes, like a couple of inches and they are only about an inch themselves, if that. Also, when i woke up i caught the plec sucking one od the dead bodies, is he the culprit? Oh and i have a fluval 3+ for filtration, temp is 26.

The first fish i got was the tetra's, and i did the drip method to acclimitise them. Then i bought the rest of the fish from the lfs, and the guy advised me just to keep them in the bag and float them for 15- 20mins.

Thanks again for you're help :)

Its not internal parasites then.

You gradually add water to the bag every 15 minutes, You only add abit at a time if there a big difference in ph.
Always test bag water in ph and temp. This way you know how long to climatise for.

Plecs do eat dead bodies. Best to get dead fish out of the tank as quickly as possible as they can pass desease on.

Mollies can be aggressive.
Copy and paste this thread over to tropical disucssion to see if they can shed any light on whats going on.
