i got some new fish the other week they are coldwater tropical fishes, they have been great up untill yesterday, have been feeding every other day, only a small amount, so as not to overload them and the tank, done everthing right so far i think, but they dont seem to be settling. do i need to change the water? are they just playing? . i wasnt sure if it was because i turned off the light in the tank for a day, they were in the dark and since i have turned it back on the have been goin wild- chasing each other, nipping at each other, frantically swimming round, if anyone has any tips or ideas of what this could be please reply as i am really worried :-(

what fish do you have? surely you can either have tropical (which need the warmer temperatures) OR cold water fish which dont, such as goldfish. i am not aware that you can get tropical coldwater fish can you?
you shouldn't have any problems related to the feeding as they should be fine with everyother day.
you might need to change some of the water in the tank, but it depends on the quality of the water. do you have a testing kit? if not you need to get a liquid based one for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph.
leaving the lights out for a long time and then suddenly turning them on may have shocked your fish and this is probably what has caused them to behave in the way you describe, they should settle down.
meanwhile please post back with more info about your fsh and tank

What type fish are they and how many did you add? Also, what are the other inhabitants, tank size and water parameters?
