I have very recently put some silver mollies in my tank. I came home today to find one floating in the plants, aned the other on the gravel. When i prodded them, they stayed still until i tried scooping them up, and then and they spazzed out, swimming rapidly. They are now eating fine, and swimming freely.

Were they just asleep, or should i be concerned?

*Also, my platies have lil' dark spots on their bellies. Are they pregnant?*

Most likely a gill infection, if they cant absorb oxygen to well they become very lethargic.

Do u have any treatments, some thing like myaxazin would be good.
Do u have any filteration?

yeah i have a filter, my tank is 55l and all i have is a fighter, 4 platies (very small ones) and a pleco...so i wouldnt imagine there is an issue with O2, especially seeing as my tank is very densly planted. They are fine now.....i thought it might be sleeping...

With mollies their prone to gill problems even if you have high D.O. levels mollies can suffer.

Just be care full esp if they not feeding right.

well the second i put the food in they went stright to eat it, i just looked in and i think it might have been how they sleep, do platies sleep on leaves of plants as well...im new to livebearers so i dontk know

they don't usually sit around, normally on the move doing something, even at nite they tend to do something.

I am sorry but I beg to differ with you. I leave the lights on during the night and turn them off when I leave in the morning, so they get about 10-12 hours of light a day. When I get home and turn them on, most of them will either be really low to the ground if not on the sand/gravel or in the caves. You can see what I have in my signature. My fish are healthy and water parameters are good. I also have a 10 gallon tank and both sets of fry do the same thing.

So, I think you are jumping the gun a bit when you automatically think they are sick. Though, you should definitely get the water test (not the strips) but the liquid ones and post you pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. And always keep an eye out for any physical signs of distress.

Do they only do this when you turn the lights on?

Post pics of the platies.

They probably was resting, when you came home was your fish tank light out? if it was they could of been resting and you disturbed them to soon (and you should never try prodding a fish - use your finger and swirl water near them)...

Mollies are just like any other livebearer, there active during light, and rest during dark.. post some pics if you can and let us see the condition of them (if you are very concerned)...

Good luck and hope they are ok :)
