Help...

yep depending on where you live, in the UK bettas are usually found in most places but normally they are just common red or blue VTs kept in tanks with other fish, in other places around the would they are kept in cups but you get a bit more variety in colour and tail type, a single male would be preferctly happy in that tank :good:

goldfish are coldwater but a heater is best to keep the temperature constant, a swing in temperature can be fatal to some fish

This is all complicated, maybe i'm not good for fish lol

LOL...You'll be fine. ;)

The only reason I suggested the heater is that I don't know where you live, and like lilfishie said...temp swings can be dangerous for fish. Just remember, in the wild temperature swings in the air take a long time to affect the water. Arizona is a good example. Lake Powell, near the Grand Canyon, stays at a frigid 37 degrees (trust me...I jumped in  ) during the summer, when it's 110 outside. But, once you put a fish in a tank, the amount of water they have to swim through changes dramatically. ;)

I feel bad though as my goldfish are gonna have to go in there as i cant afford to get them a new home now

they'll be fine in there for now. Goldfish are usually pretty hardy. But i would keep my eye out for special offers at say peter barratts or smaller pet shops for a slightly bigger tank. Dont be put off if the tank doesnt come with a heater, as sometimes it can work out cheaper to buy the cheaper tank (with filter/lights etc) and buy the heater seperately. :)

Dont worry too much immediately :)

Especially if you have a birthday coming up.... new tank= great birthday pressie!! ;)

have a look on ebay, been a few good deals on there recently, if i had the space i would of picked up a few more :good:

Your fish should be fine for now, but keep an eye out and save your money for a month. Depending on where you live...your bigger fish stores will have sales from time to time. I know Petco is always having a sale of some sort. Honestly, I have to keep my girlfriend and I on the budget road or we would spend a small fortune taking care of our finned children. ;)

My gf was not a fish person when I met her. She hadn't had any fish that she spoke about. She was a cat person. But...I'm alergic to cats. So...I had a small 5 gallon fish tank with 2 Tetras in it. Well, one died in the move. :( So, I got another fish and everything snowballed from there. Now, we have a 10 gallon crayfish tank, a 55 gallon community tank, and 2 betta tanks. But, honestly...if we had more room we'd have more. LMAO

You'll learn everything you need by searching the net and reading various forums. You'll be fine as long as you remember one thing...the only dumb question is the one never asked. ;) :good:

Thanx for all ur help guys :good:

I will put them in this tank and see how they go, u never know they may like it :)

I might get them a tree :shifty:

I just had a thought....Yes, that should everyone...it does me, that's for sure. LOL

You might try WalMart. See if you can find a big rubbermaid container for now, if it looks too overcrowded in there. It would give them some more room, and shouldn't really cost you much more than about $5 or so.

It's a thought, scary...but, it's a thought. ;)

Well guys, i put my 2 goldfish into their new home last night. They seemed to like it straight away, however it does look a bit plain and boring. Any ideas what i could do to brighten it up??

Oh and also my pump is in the water and is pumping water out of the top but it does not have bubble going up the tube, does that mean it aint working properly??

The best thing to do is to take your Goldfish back to the shop and part exchange them for a Betta. Goldfish are VERY messy fish and with your tank being new, the filter simply won't be able to cope with their waste. Please think of the fish's health, it's not a good start for them.

 they seem very very happy

I know for a fact they are having a better time than they did in the shop!!

I am going to get them a tree/plant this weekend as its looking a bit bare...

You need a larger tank as soon as possible. The Goldfish may survive, they will not thrive. Fish deserve to be kept in the best conditions.

u really cant do much with a tank teh size of yours. i cant think of anything but a small goldfish. even though it will stunt there growth you have extremly limited options. sorry mate.
