Hi,

Any help really needed. as per my previous posts regarding Hexamita which I thought was killing my sharks I have just come in tonight to find my True Plecko eating one of my last 2 sharks. I don't know whether the shark had died first or whether the plecko killed it?

My water stats are

Nitrate - 0
Amonia - 0
Nitrate - 10

Last week I had 6 sharks now I have 1. In the week I found 2 dead although really it was 1 & 1/2 I thought one of them had decomposed rather quick. Seeing this tonight is making me wonder whether the plecko has killed them?

Are True Plecko's known to do this kind of thing and should I get him out of the tank as I still have 1 shark, 6 Tiger Barbs and 6 Zebra Danios which I don't want to loose.

Thanks

Whats the size of your tank in gallons or litres.
I doubt its the plec to kill that many.
What are the systoms of the shark before well they die.
The more info the better, can't see your tank so we have to ask alot of questions.

Hi Wilder,

You have answered questions before regarding the sharks and the probable cause of the sharks dying being the bad water quality, see below.

Possibly Hexamita?
Sharks are dying

It's just that the last 2 looked fine swimming about at 5.30pm this evening yet by 7.15pm the plecko is on top of one eating it!

I have sat and watched the plecko since and have seen it go for one of the Zebra Danios that just swam passed.

Are the True Plekco's known to be like this?

Plecs are territorial and I've watched mine chase fish off which got too close (especially when food's involved), though mine aren't big ones. I imagine the aggression towards the danio was because of that.

Was the shark already dead when you saw the plec on it? Are you sure it was the plec that killed it?

Not sure whether the shark was already dead or not I went out for 2 hours and before I left all seemed ok when I got back I saw the Pleck eating the Shark.

It was probably already dead before the Plecko went after it. It's quite unlikely that a Plecko would attack or even devour a fish. Most fish take advantage of other deaths in the tank and tend to eat their tankmates after they pass away. I have seen my own Plecko eat dead fish before, but only after they have died.

Can you keep to the same thread as it gets confusing, will have to look at the other threads again.
