What are your water stats.

i really dont know because i have my LFS do it and i am going to buy a test kit tonight so i can test it myself

What did you use for a water treatment? If you cleaned the filter what was the procedure? What make & model of filter do you have? What is your water source (municipal water from a lake, river, well, or private well)?

the water treatment was aquasafe and i did not clean the filter the make is tedrafin and the water is from tap with water condin.

could it be the ammonia

What ammonia? Where does your water company get it's water from?

The ammonia could be from an increase of additives by your water company. You need to know how, when, & why your water company does what it does. An increase in chlorine, chloramine, and buffers is common for many water companies in the winter. You need to adjust your water treatment accordingly. AquaSafe is one of the best water treatments out there, but if you don't add enough to compensate for what your water company adds you could have problems.

My water comes from Lake Michigan. They jack the additives in the winter, I double dose with Prime all winter long.

I dont know much but it can be abit to much aqua safe?

From experience putting in too much aqua safe has clouded the water, thats just form experience just take it into account. But in no way stop searching for the problem.
