im doing some water testing now

My female bette isnt swimming right. She is very floppy. She tries to swim down but immediately floats up to the top and tips to her side.

All other fish seem fine.

please help

lets see

so far my results are:

ammonia: 0-.25

PH: 8.2

Nitrite: 0

Im working on nitrate as i only have one test tube to work with

I've had her for several months now probably about two and a half

she is in a 44 gallon community tank with 3 gold barbs, 5 rasboras, and 7 cory cats

im gonna test nitrates and check out that website

Yeah if you are able to quarrentine her that would be great! It will help in treating her and allow her to be relaxed while she needs to get better!

ok so i think my testing kit is not working! I thought most tanks are suppose to have at least some readings of nitrates but i am only getting a reading 0 to 5. The testing kit is only about a month old. It is the liquid test kits.

i hope its just a swim bladder disorder then, it seems simple enough.

Just before I got on here I fed her a deshelled pea. She hasnt been eating her betta pellets but munchin on the other fishes food...regular flake, daphnia, and spiruluna flakes.

I do have a quarantine tank that has 5 more rasboras in there...they have been there for about a month so they are good to go into the big tank....should I switch them to the fish tank and her to the small tank now?

Tommorrow is water change day so should i wait until then before I switch them over or should i do a water change now or just make the switch.

thanks for the help so far!

What were the 5 rasboras in the quarrentine for? Just strictly quarentine from a store or for a medical treatment?

I would say do a full clean to the quarrentine tank, just so there is no chance of anything else hurting the betta.

What all do you have in your quarrentine tank? Like you have areation in there for him? This could help him with his breathing since she floats to the top when she stops swimming. I'd say the best thing to do is try the pea thing again like you said you had done and then let her rest for the night and see how she is in the morning.

Best of Luck with her!!!

thanks for all your help.

i will do the pea thing again.

The quarantine tank is a 10 gal with a simple HOB filter..hmmm no extra aeration besides that. I was hopin the calmer waters would help! Anything i should do about that?

The tank also has a few silk plants and one cave like ornament with plants attatched.

I noticed that my tanks are colder than they should be. They are at 72!( dont have central heat. we use space heater to warm up our house when its cold and its a bit chilly outside) I havnt made any recent adjustments b4 now. I cranked up the temp a little in the small tank.

well im goin up to bed i have 2 get up early. im going to check up here in the morning. Any more suggestions would be great!

thanks for all your help.

As long as you have current moving in the tank and the filter is kinda splashing bubbles, she'll be fine. Yes you are right that calmer waters are good!

Wow you like to give your guarrentines a great relaxing place, that's great!

Okay so this means you have a heater in the small tank??
If you don't have a heater or just need extra heat, you could always try wrapping towels around the tank...especially warm towels right from the dryer! That's just an extra suggestion if you ever run into heating problems for a tank.

Hope all goes well, keep us updated!! Please!!

HELLO!

all goes well with my little girl!

She is hangin out in the 10 gallon tank. Ive had the light off all day and the tank semi wrapped so she could rest peacefully.

I came home now and unwrapped the towel, waited and thenturned on the light and there she is just chillin.

SHe is swimming normally now....she seems much more sedate in these waters though. In the community tank she was everywhere! Is that good?

I fed her another pea she ate it right up! Should I return her to her normal diet with a weekly fast and a pea? How long should I keep her in the quarantine tank?

Yea i keep my quarantine tank comfy for my new additions. They just seem so nervous and scared when I bring them home so i would like to think the plants and cavish type thing will make them feel more secure. I had a background set up too but I probably should take that off for the betta so she wont see her reflections. The rasboras and cory cats liked seeing their reflections when they were in there...i guess they thought there was more of them in the tank than there really was! After my 44 gal is compltely stocked i want to make a small female betta community.

thansk for all your help! Just gave me a good scare! hopefully this is the last of my concerns and questions to b asked.

thanks again,
kelli
