Hi there,

Iv just setup a new tank with Lake Malawi chiclids, iv also got a Pictus in there which came from another tank I had. My problem is recently the belly of the pictus looks swollen, at times it looks normal though, could anyone please give me some advise? Iv looked it up and I think it could be a bacterial infection but I dont want to treat it unless I have too incase it effects my chclids.

Please help....

Seeing how its not swollen all the time its probaly just a sign that he's eating good.

Assuming he is not showing any other symptoms and your water stats are normal, I would agree with Erk. If this only occurs after eating, it just means he's full! My pictus get quite the bellies after a good meal.
But, you may want to check into your stats and keep an eye on the tank.

Try some shelled peas on the fish.
Cook some peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush betwen fingers and add to the tank.
