Help!

Hi Bex

Yeah I've just been to the LFS this lunchtime and picked up the Myaxzin. Going to give the first dose in 10 mins. I've noticed this morning that another of my platys has slight deterioration to his dorsal fin so I really do think that Wilder is right and that I have a bacterial infection among my fish. I'm really hoping the med will get to work and that there won't be any more fatalities. Let me know who you get on.

I went to the LFS at lunch and they advised against Myaxzin as it might hurt the filter bacteria? I'm sure Wilder would have said if that were true though? My LFS are pretty good and well rated on this forum. They also said that my ram is quite young and the fact that she spawned a week ago could be the reason as this is quite common with young rams as they get exhausted from it. Also the fact that she is still alive - yours died within 12 hours right? The colour has returned to her also and before she did this she looked just like she was about to try and lay more eggs.

The LFS gave me Melafix but I'm not sure if this is the right thing now? Also, they told me to try her with some bloodworms as she did eat a little from the gravel last night. Let me know how your Myaxzin works. It seems the Melafix is more for external things but it does say covers a wide range of bacterial disease.

:/

Rams are very sensetive to water conditions. You are keeping them in soft water right? (GH 3)

Hi RadaR

Never done a GH test so I don't know. This could be the problem but my male Ram is absolutely fine - for now anyway!

I won't be able to get back to the LFS before it shuts but I will try and get hold of one. Thanks for the tip!

Am I right in thinking that my water would be very similar to the water at the LFS. It is very local only 20 mins away from where I live?

Naturally yes but the fish are only in their tanks for a small duration of time and might use RO water to change the water.

Also keep an eye on any flicking and rubbing on objects.
Myxazin dosn't normal interfer with the bacteria colony in the filter, but sometimes meds can knock the stats abit.

Ok there is some cucumber in there that was put in for the plecs earlier. Do I need to take this out before any meds go in?

The Ram is off the gravel now and trying to swim around but then seems to give up and float for a bit. NOt sure if that's good or not but her colours are better but she's still quite dark?

Does the fish look bloated as don't know if it's because he's weak, but it sounds like swim bladder.

no, she's not bloated. one minute she looks fine and is swimming, and then she sort of drifts along, and then swims off again

*sorry, missed the link. it's not like the fry in the video. when she swims, it is like normal, straight body, across the tank, and then she will stop and drift with the flow from the filter, sometimes drifting in a circle. then she straightens up an swims off again?

Ok, i would still use the myxazin for now, good luck.
