Hi I wonder if anyone can help me. I've been left alone with a very large tropical fish tank housing all sorts including 4 stunning discus. About half an hour ago, the pump made a funny noise and stopped working altogether. I've no idea what I need to do and the owner is uncontactable. Can anyone advise please?
Thanks

Do you mean the filer, you will have to remove it to see if it's blocked.

Not sure what I mean. All I know is the bubbles have stopped and the surface is calm and smooth. How long can the tank stay like that for?

If it's a pump just give the pump a knock with your hand to get it pumping again.

I've tried what you suggested but nothing has happened. Can the pump stay off for a few days without the fish suffering?

Yes if there is a good surface movement at the top of the tank, you could unplug it and take it apart and look at the tubbing, then set it up again.

no surface movement at all - totally calm and smooth. Also, would not have the first clue about taking apart the pump. How long can I safely leave the tank in this condition?

If there no movement it sounds like a powerhead filter, do you no the name of the product.

Ask a mod to move this for you to tropical chit chat, you will get alot more help over there, names in blue at the bottom of the forum, good luck.
