I dont know where to start :-( I have had a tank set up for just over 6 weeks, everything was going fine, till i noticed i had 2 sick Mollies, i went to the Tropical Centre, where they gave me some medicine, and checked my water (which i had already done with sticks, and appeared fine) but they found ammonia in my tank :-( unfortunately i was not quick enough to save my black Mollie and he died, but my platinum mollie, i hoped i could save, i changed the water 25% and added some cycle, and some Prime to bring the ammonia levels down... The fish looked to perk up, and today when i got up i noticed my dwarf golden Gourami (f) had died, i cant believe this, i have a blue (m) and had her, and they looked perfectly fine, what have i done wrong? She wasnt ill, Help  My platinum Mollie who is ill, is still hanging in there...so i dont know what to do, i am going to take my water again this morning to be tested, and im going to get the Test Tube kit, instead of these rubbish Tetra Test Sticks i have...

Any help would be great thanx

Sorry to hear about your loss.

You are right, you need a proper kit. Post us the readings as soon as you can.

You may need to do daily water changes to get the ammonia under control. Problem is you have some fairly sensitive fish in there, so you need to get this sorted. Probably what is happening is that your weakest fish are being affected the worst.

What were the symptoms of your sick mollies?

Hi there

I had 2 mollies a black one, and a platinum one, i first noticed the black one was ill a few days ago, very cloudy eyes, and shabby body, so i went and got some Bacteria medicine from my very good Tropical Fish Centre... but sadly it died, but the platinum ones eyes started to bulge slightly, and his mouth looks kinda like hes had a stroke, a little bit open and lop sided...so i have to treat him with this medicine over the next 5 days...I must say, he is looking better already..

I think it was due to the water change, and i had some ammonia in there :-(

I have had my water tested again today, and all appears fine, apart from they couldnt get an accurate reading of my ammonia as the medicine and Prime(red) and Cycle i have in there, has affected the reading somehow, so anyway i have bought the complete testing kit myself, and will do a reading later today, and post my outcome !!

Thanx Claire x

:rip: little mollies

you can add zeolite to ur filter. It help to remove ammonia. But a good daily water change of 20-25% should apply during this period of time. Good luck to ya.

I did a reading earlier...here it is

Nitrate/Nitrite 0
PH 7
Ammonia 0

I will have to keep checking it every couple of days, till im satisfied, then i will do it once a week, with my partial water change.

Thanx alot..

Hope things look up soon! I think at this stage maintaining good water quality is more important than medication.
