where can i get sand at for a tropical tank would like playsand be ok?

It would be, but a cleaner sand would be at your local pet store. My local petco sells it for $7.99 for a 5 pounder.

Look for pool filter sand. It's at pool supply stores and most places that sell pool supplies.
