Most often, milky water is from a bacterial bloom. While this looks horrid, it is harmless to the fish and will go away in about a week. You can do partial daily water changes to help speeed this up if you would like.

To be safe, go ahead and check your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Also, are your fish acting stressed in any way? (hanging out at the surface, lethargic, not eating, just not being normal).

quite likely. The best way i've heard to remove them is to put a piece of lettuce in your tank over night, and in the morning, the snails should all be on the lettuce.

Have you introduced any new plants to your tank lateley?

yes that is what my father said (the plants were the source) do you stick the lettuce on the water or above the tank and are snails helpful at all?

Do some water change would help to clear up.
