I am new to this hobby but am enjoying it so far. Does someone have a good set of instgructions for doing a water change. I learned last night that washing my filter with tap water was a problem. I also used a Python to remove/add water. That means that I did not treat the water until it was in the tank. All of this seems to have created a problem and "uncycled" my tank.

I don't want to continue to make mistakes.

Please help.

I did (and still do) the same exact thing with my tank as you have done with your's and never had a problem.

What kind of problems are you having?

What are the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate readings? How long have you had your tank?

The Ammonia in the tank spikes right after the water change and does not go down again for about a week. I have tested my Tap water no Ammonia. I posted the problem last night and seems most people thought the water treatment products and the cleaning the filters with tap water were the problem.

Every time I think I have the tank stable I do a water change and every thing goes crazy again. Have not been able to add any additional fish and am worred about killing my current fish.

Any help would be appreciated.
