The Oscar has been in the main 75g tank for a couple days now after treatment. I had the Blood Parrot in his treatment tank a little bit longer to clear up the Ich.

When I introduced the blood parrot into the tank just now, they almost immediately started lip locking and circling eachother. I was shocked, as they did not do this before I took them out for treatment and were best buds.

The Oscar seems to have won the duel and is now hiding where he usually does. The blood parrot is swimming around the tank happily, but when he goes to the oscars side, the oscar comes out and he runs away. The oscar just pokes out every once in a while to see where he is and then goes back to hiding.

Are they claiming territory (which the O didn't try to do previously)? Are they fighting? Trying to pair off by chance?

Oh no... and as i'm typing this, the oscar has just come out to the other side of the tank and started another fight. Should i remove the BP? It seems a bit violent.......

edit: i've managed to get a very low quality video that I'm waiting for youtube to process. i'll link it when it's ready

Here is the video of the end of their first scuffle:

The second one was quick and the oscar finally went back to hiding.

The blood parrot is now happily swimming around the tank appearing to be oblivious to what is going on. He's picking at rocks and wiggling everywhere. The Oscar wont come out anymore except to chase him away from his driftwood.

On another note, the Oscar has been scared of me and hiding ever since this morning for no reason. ..... Seems I just can't catch a break.

I really do not want to reorganize the tank, as it's setup just how I want it. :shout:

that was a brutal fight. i was cringing the whole time. two things could happen, and are both common: they will get used to eachother, or they will keep fighting. in my case, the only time my biggies get aggressive is during feeding time or when they think they are going to be fed. otherwise they either hang out together or stay on opposite sides of the tank.

you don't have to redo your tank. it looked pretty cool from the little bit i saw.

I've moved the oscars little palace of driftwood in hopes of upsetting his aggression a little. Didn't change things a whole lot.... so i'll put everything back to how it was in the morning.

They are both kind of doing their own thing right now and when the BP gets too close to the ocar, it results in a chase. No more fighting has occurred though. The blood parrot doesn't want any of it.

It's a shame at this point..... they were such good pals

edit: on somewhat of a positive note, it ended Pumba's sulking.... that's for sure.

chasing is fine, fighting is bad. if that's all it has become, then things will improve.
Thanks. I sure hope so! I feel horrible for Timone right now. He's being chased to no end.

Had a few Parrots, got one breeding with a Blue Acara now, and had one breed with a Convict. What you describe about the poking at rocks and such sounds like your Parrot wants to breed, and judging by the Oscars reaction, it doesn't. If the Parrot keeps going over to the Oscar I would be certain thats what it is, they will try an breed with anything that moves thats a Cichlid in my experience. Could be destined to end badly if the Oscar isnt interested.

Interesting.....

The parrot was doing a bit of flicking after a couple of chases ended. It would seem that way, as the parrot kept approaching the oscar while he was begging for food. but every time the parrot joined in the wiggling he got harrassed.

The aggression does seem a little bit better as of right now (i just got home). They are "tolerating" eachother at this point. but neither the BP or Oscar are acting like buds. I guess I'll just keep an eye on em and see where it progresses. I'd hate to give either one of em up :\

Yeah, two fish you can really get attached to. I love my parrot now so looks like it will be the Acara who goes, unfortunately grown attached to her too, so may see if she is ok in my 62gal with a RTBS an some Tiger Barbs.
