Hi, I have had my 29 gallon tank up and operating for a good 2 years and a half....I have had no problems and my fish are thriving. However, about a 2 weeks ago my two female swords came down with ick. I treated it by using quickcure with okay results and then added mardel coppersafe. The ick made an appearance every now and then but then was completely gone about 2 days ago. Now the same females have a white patch just at the begginning of the top fin...it sort of looks like fungus but im afraid it could be hole in the head. I caught one of the females and quaranteed her but the next morning she died with fungus all over her body even with quickcure and coppersafe added into the enclosure. The other female is swimming and breathing normally and its been a constant problem with just these 2 fish, well 1 now...does anyone have any thoughts to what type of treatment i should use or any comments at all? Like I said, my other fish are perfectly fine. Please help because i fear i may lose her to.

Thank you,
Jared

sorry about that...i keep it at 7.0 ph and the temp is at 78 degrees...water changes weekly as well as ph, ammonia and nitrate tests...my other fish include a pleco, male sword, 2 platies, bunch of neons, and 3 gups...and it almost looks like a wound...like something scraped against her and tore scales off but there is nothing sharp or ragid to do such a thing...so thats why i still beleive it to be fungus...and also i have have noticed some white inbetween the groves on her left fin so this is very weird...she is still the only one that has this... .thanks for the responses..id appreciate more help...
thank you!
Jared

If the patches are fluffy you are dealing with columnaris.

oh no defititly doesnt look like that poor guy in the picture i would freak out!...its just a flat white patch

Flat white patches can be columnaris bacteria infection or parasite, any flicking and rubbing on objects.

The neons they are not neon tetra's are they.

no as i said she is behaving normally and eating normally...and yes they are they are fairly new so i dont see them as the cause of the problem? thanks
Jared

Hole in he head is pitting, so i isn't that ntd lose colour in the red stripe, look at the gills any mucas on them, as you are dealing with a parasite or bacteria infection, any laboured breathing, being listless.

Plus for the record if you don't quarantine new fish they can fetch anything into the tank, so new fish don't no what you mean.

no breathing is fine as well as behavior...should i just go with a parasite and fungus treatment to be on the safe side?...yes i know, i had them in quarantine for 4 or 5 days before i released them into my tank...i noticed nothing the matter with them and they are doing well and staying together...

That's not really long enough 4 weeks really, as long as there red stripe is nice and bright, this is the problem finding out if it's a bacteria infection or parasite, parasite also can get bacteria infections on top, with having the whitespot also prone to other infections, if there is no laboured breathing and flicking and rubbing treat with a baceria med, good luck, with having the neons i will leave you a link to ntd.
