Hi there,

Size of aquarium - 50L
Types of fish - goldfish
Number of fish and sizes -1 about 6-8 cm
Filtration used and how do you clean it and how often - standard filtr which is working 4x1h every day
How much in the way of water changes and how often -- 30-40% every 7-9 days
Do you dechlorinate - aquasafe
Symptoms of sick fish ie, spots, behaviour, etc - swimming on the side, breathing slowly
How long has the fish been sick and which medications are your currently using or recently used - last 24h
Test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph both from the tap and tank - all good tested with tetra 7in1 test and everything in norm
Anything else you need us to know - there was a small plant tight up o the root which was dying and I took it out yesterday it did smell a bit rotten.

I have a spare bowl about 8-10L, I filled it in 40% water from tank and rest fresh water with aquasafe and put the fish there.
It laying at the bottom of the bowl on the side, occasionally swimming a bit and again on the side when i come closer it does try to swim normal but it looks like it is tired and dying...

Please help and tell me what to do next ...

kind regards

Everything seems alright apart from maybe the tank size. The test kit probably isn't reliable it's strip tests right?

It sounds like it probably has a disease.

Hi, sorry to hear about your goldfish, when you say the filter is working 4x1hr per day do you mean you only keep the filter on 4 hours a day? filters should be on permanently in tanks 24hrs a day otherwise the beneficial bacteria that grow on the sponges and consume ammonia and other harmful elements in the water will die, ineffectively making the filter useless, the only time a filter should be turned off is during a water change or maintenance of the filter. How long have you had the goldfish for?

What type of goldfish is it.
If you have a ten gallon tank you need a 20 gallon filter or even 30 gallon, as they are massive waste producers.
Test strip cards are not accurate, Liquid test kits are the best.

Take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

How big are the spots. Any redness to the spots.
Any fluid in the spots.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, erratic swimming, darting.
Is the fish bloated.
What do you feed the fish.
