Hi All,

For the last 5 days I have 1 neon Tetra (from a school of 14) that seems to have a protrusion from his rear fin. Hes been desperate to swim straight for days but ends up going all over the place (upside down and face up). Hes clearly effected by this lump in his tail. I thought it was the last for him two days back - but hes a strong little fighter and will not give up. I juss don't have the heart to put him down.

Any suggestions?

Possible to get a picture? If not the lump may be a tumor which may be affecting the fishes balance. In which case you either let him continue as he is or euthanize. Remember this is only a guess based on your description. keep us posted. :)

Thanks for the advice, one question - if this is some sort of tumor - is it likely to effect my other fish?

Thanks

No, not likely. But if there is an underlying disease causing the tumor then it may affect the other fish. For now just keep an eye on everyone for lumps or cuts or discoloration of the skin of the other fish but usually these things are isolated things. Good Luck :)

I have a somewhat similar condition on my Harlequin Rasbora, but withot the swimming imbalace problem. See my post for current treatment and conditions. I will update it as I go along.
