Hi All

I have just got a load of new plants from my LFS, unfortunately they are not labelled so I could do with some help getting IDS.

Pictures are below.

I also have some Vallis, Onion Bulb and Camomba to act as my fast growers and try and keep algae at bay.

I am very new to heavily planted tanks so any advice on a layout would be appreciated.

At the moment the plants are kind of dumped in the tank as below

Or alternatively please direct me to any resources that you more experienced guys think may help

Thanks in advance
Aaron

God I'm crap at IDing.
So that others can take the pi$$ i'll have a guess (it'll be fun).

Java Fern
Anubias
Egeria

erm..... Anyway....
Layout wise, up to you really, but consider the HEIGHT of the tank and its physical size - then refer to one of the links below for good info.

I tend to think in layers, with a curved (to the sides) footprint. NOTHING looks better than a carpet up front. then go (as you go back) foreground, midground, background plants. Nice piece of bog wood (or whatever) with some moss on... great! Oh, and add a splash of red somewhere e,g, Rotala Rotundifolia - bootiful!

Oh, and BEFORE you put any more plants in, don't infect, sterilze FIRST (some of those plants you have look filthy!).

Hey thanks for the reply.

I will get on with reading hehe

I misworded the post I think, those small dirty ones and 2 of the big bright green ones at the back were already mine, and have an algae issue lol

Oops

start with the aquatic gardeners link (competion tanks) - f m sideways there are some STUNNING tanks there!

Oh, Amazon Sword perhaps.

BTW, where did you purchase them thar plants? (Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't say Prats @ Home)

Andy

Got them from my local LFS, not from Pets at home lol, never go to them, other than to point out all the dead fish to the staff and tut alot.

All the new ones were clean and in good health, I rinsed them under the tap for a good minute each to hopefully remove any nasties. Although my LFS is pretty good and the plants are always clean and snail free

I am thinking of having a carpet at the front, have ordered some HC and Riccia Flutians, will plant the HC into the substrate and I have a nice piece of slate to tie the Riccia onto.

I also have a nice piece of bogwood soakin and some Java moss on order so will get to work on that.

Will go through those links and look for nice background/midground plants.

Once the tank is more heavily planted I will get rid of the camomba and onion plant, or relegate them to my quarantine tank with the danios lol
