Help With Painting Tanks

i have seen alot of tanks with painted black backgrounds .. was wondering how this is done.. with what kind of paint and such...i thought painting the tank would be a bad thing w/ the chemicals and all???

and if it was painted can you still clean it without the paint rubbing or chipping off??

Painting a tank is mercifully one of the easiest things to do . Just get some latex based paint and paint the outside (I'd reccomend using a foam brush or regular brush instead of a roller). Either slather it on thick the first time, or double coat it. You'll find that the latex doesn't adhere all that well to glass which is good cause ultimately it'll just scrape and pull right off when you want to get it clean. So long as the latex drys in a room other than where the fish are and because you're only painting the outside, you should be fine as far as livestock health goes

I taped all mine with News Paper and spray painted it blue. It worked great, but I didn't wait long enough to let it dry...I ended up with a few scratches.

I used straight forward emulsion as recommended by another forum. It took 3 coats to cover the brush strokes, and it looks great, but I don't know how well it would come off if I decided to change it. I would think it would soak off pretty easily.

well i finally got around to goin to home depot and buying my paint . one or two more coats and it will be done . ill be sure to post a pic to see the before and afters ...thanks its already lookin 10 times better .

WAY better. And I love those colors on the candycane, really pops out at ya
