hi,ive just set up my first birob 60lt tank, filled it with water, got it all working and the next day decided to move the tank so emptyed the water in pots and filled it back up after i moved it,what im finding is the water has now gone all cloudy,i made sure i washed all plasic plants and stuff.and dont know why its done this, have left it 5 days to settle but it hasnt, please help!!!

Could be bacterial bloom, but not sure if you've not added anything yet.

How do you plan to cycle?

Hi Sugarfree - the exact same thing happened to me! I set up a new Aqueon 26 gallon tank, and after 3 days and a partial water change it went cloudy white. Another 50% water change did not really clear it up. Three days ago I did a 90% water change (because I moved the tank to a new stand), and since then it has remained crystal clear. Another forum user suggested that there are some bacteria that like to feed on the glue residue from the factory, so it was probably just a bacterial bloom. You might find that a large water change will take care of it. I have no fish in my tank yet - only one week into fishless cycle.

If it's bacterial bloom, which sounds fairly likely, then it should go away on it's own eventually. But yes, water changes may speed it up. But don't forget you don't want to get rid of those bacteria. They break up food and waste. So the cycle can begin.

Agree, bacterial blooms in just-filled tanks are nearly universal and are the result not only of the heterotrophic/saprotrophic bacteria feeding on the glass sealing residues but also feeding on all sorts of stuff in the tap water as they have now been freed up to multiply by the removal of the chlorine/chloramines when the water was conditioned.

I would also agree that it a bacteria bloom. I just set up a new tank and got a bacteria bloom. I then emptied the tank and refilled it and the water has remained crystal clear. I don't recommend you empty any water out as it should go away with in 3-7 days. I emptied my water out for other reasons.

thanks guys for all the advice i came home from work today to find the water clear again.Cant wait to get the fish now

What fish will you be putting in the tank? Also be careful. Get fish that are hardy. Make sure the temp is right at about 78f and consider thinking if the water is aged enough for fish.

Don't go just on what I say, but I believe I have read posts that say the Zebra Danios are fairly hardy type fish.
