Help With My Water Lettuce

I brought some water lettuce off of ebay a few months ago, they were looking good and the amount has doubled but compared to photos ive seen they are tiny and the roots arent that big either. and recently they are starting to die out!!

i feed them with plant food every week.
What can i do to help them get bigger and heathlier??
