hi all very new 2 this site found it googling as i need some help

I have a pair of blue rams male and female
yesterday i noticed that my male wont move from one bottom corner of the tank
he has quite a noticalble red and swollen gill on his right side
Hes not feeding, shes sitting with him most of the time but the female is fine and still swims around and feeds

Any ideas what is wrong with him or is the best thing to do ?

thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to TFF.

Couple of questions, How long has the tank been set up? How was it cycled? How long have you had the rams? Do you know your water stats for ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte and ph? Tank temperature? What are the feeding on?

If you can give answers to those 1st, we maybe able to advise on how to help the ram.

wow lol i dont now all of that im affraid
its my partners tank but hes away atm

Its been running about 3 months and the rams in it for one month
i think the temp is around 80 2lots of food go in the tank flakes and peletes for our plec
(but the do tend to pik at the plecs food as well as the flakes )

The female is fine and the male was fine until yesterday

sorry i cant tell you the rest i wouldnt even no how 2 find that all out -_-

If it's a 3 month or longer old tank (ie. has been running that long) and proper maintenance is carried out (25% water change weekly or more, esp. important for blue rams), than most of your stats should be fine. As long as your filter is sufficient for the tank size/water volume and that it isn't over stocked.

Only things I can think of for the observation you've given would be things like gill flukes or other parasites or possibly bacteria infection.

Maybe make a post in the emergency section of the forum if you haven't already. And perhaps include a picture or two of the fish as well, that might help members work out what's happening with your fish.
