I need help with breeding my bettas, i've introduced the male betta to the spwning tank for maybe 3 hours and i've planted some floating plants (2-3) and i kept the female in a cup in the tank where she is visible to the male. The male seem that he wants the female but i could not see him building a nest, What should i do?
The SECOND thing is i released the female (well she jumped out) and could see the vertical lines on her body and then they become invisible is that okay?
The THIRD thing is i cant see a big belly on the female doas that means she won't get pregnant?

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COOPERATION,
and i'd really appreciate it. :D

No targetting meant here but how come there are -so- many people that are trying to breed now who seem like they don't even know what they're doing? :/

Anyways, I suggest that you keep the female in something a bit larger that it can't jump out of if you are totally into the breeding. Also, give the male some time to acclimate to the tank so he'll start building the nest. Some of mine usually take more than a day to get a nest going. If you can't see a big belly then how come you're spawning her if there arent any apparent eggs? When the verticle stripes dissapear means she's probably scared. I recommend that you quickly put her back into another container as the male will probably kill her. What kidn of bettas are these? Cts? Vts?

Three hours of waiting wouldn't set of any alarm-bells, at least not with me.

With my bettas it usually take a lot longer to get them to breed.

well i think it's type is Vts, and thanks verry much :D .
I'll do what you've said and thanks again :good: wish me luck.

HI,
I tried and i can see progress, a bubble nest is visible and a big belly on the female with vertical stripes :) .
The problem is when i released her the stripes disapear, i think she is scared so i seperater them again. I gave them for maybe 4 days should i release her back out? Or give them more time?

Thanx.

First, let me state that I don't mean to hurt anyones feelings...nor do I intent to discurage you from breeding. BUT....had a few questions for you (which you should consider and I'm sure you have) before doing this.

1. What do you ultimately want to achieve with this spawn?
2. Do you have the knowledge and the food prepared already to take care of the babies? Spawning your fish and then scrambling around for food so you can keep the little ones alive is not a good way to start.
3. Do you have plans for housing the babies in a grow out tank, and then a jar for all of the males (and some of the females most likely) when they get older?
4. Do you plan on keeping all of the kids? Or do you have homes already lined up for them?
5. Where as VTs are beautiful (I have 4 of them myself) do you really want to bring more into the world when there are hundreds at local pet stores that don't have a home???
6. Do you have the finances to support all of those bettas? (some spawns will get close to 500+ fry)

I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't breed, but I am saying that definatly do as much research as you can prior to breeding. And most people would recommend getting a nice breeding pair from Aquabid.com or a reputable breeder. Such as halfmoons, or crowntails, or something of that nature.

Now to answer your question, my guess is your female is scared of your male. How long did you let the male get used to his spawning tank? How long did you let the female stay in her jar? Did you properly condition them before hand for breeding?

I hope these questions help....and good luck
