I recently bought 3 johanni's 1 male and 2 females or so i thought i know ones a male becuse it is black with blue stripes but the other two seem to be browny with blue in i thought females where orange with a yellow stripe. The male is bigger than the other two does anyone know weather they will change orange or are they younger males.

"females are orange or yellow-orange with indistinct black stripes"

id take a pic and post on a cichlid forum to be sure

so you dont think they are johannis i'll try that site thanks for the help.
just looked at that site i think thier neon spots as well still couldnt find any female photos.i'll do more reserch before i bye next time . thanks again.

They do look like the Pseudotropheus Elongatus Neon Spot, male and female.

I`ve just had some new Malawis delivered and I also have the neon spots, they look the same as my males and females. Once they`re settled I`ll get some pics uploaded so you can see for yourself. ;)

As you can see from this pic, the johanni has horizontal stripes, yours has the vertical markings and colour so I do think you have the neon spot.

im feeding them on a cichlid pellets and cucumber do you think they would like daphnia aswell also could do with some help on good tank mates for them.

try and get a flake food with spirulina in it, heres the one i use http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140485550802&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

for tankmates i would get yellow labs, yellow tail acei, rusty`s or other midly aggressive mbuna, i have melanochromis "maingano" they look like johanni but arnt aggressive they would go well too, dont go for highly aggressive ones check here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/

you could also get a few cuckoo catfish (Synodontis multipunctatus) they are cool
