So, here I am doing my fishless cycle on the new 55 gallon tank. Waiting patiently, test kit in hand.

While I'm waiting, I need to get some lights installed in the hood. My goal is to try for a planted tank eventually. But to start out, I just plan on having fishies in there.

So ... do I need to buy a specialty fixture (not bulb, fixture) and will aquarium bulbs fit into a standard "buy it from the hardware store" fixture? If not, what is the proper fixture to buy? And, there are quite a few bulbs to choose from. Any recommendations?

Help!

metal halide will be your friend to get the right amount of watts yuo need for a planted tank... (165 watts for a 55 gallon. or very close to that wattaage) or find something that will hold 165 watts or close to it...
