Ok...let my explain my question, as it isn't easy for me..lol. I took the first big step by purchasing a Fluval 305 filter, and now I am looking to upgrade my lighting. Presently, my tank includes 2 standard 24 inch lights that fit on top of the standard reflectors/covers on a 55 gallon, 48 inch tank, under a canopy. The problem is that I have a shallow canopy, and I can't use fancy lighting systems (have to be compact/retrofit whatever that means????). I am afraid to try to remove the rubber piece that runs around the top of the tank tank and divides it into two parts. I am looking for more powerful lighting, that also has blue moonlights for night. Can I purchase another two 24 inch lights and reflectors, that would give me such capacity? Or, should I remove the rubber and add a tank-long compact lighting system? In either case, what kind of equipment would you guys and gals recommmend? I am looking for at least x3 wattage (165 watts and above, with the blue LED/moonlight included in the fixture(s). I almost bought a lighting system from someone on Craigslist, but thank God I didn't, as I then read that it can't be keep within a canopy. I assume this is because of heat-related issues, and not a matter of size, as it would have fit. Anyway, any advice, suggestions, speciifics would be appreciated. Thanks...
