Nitrite has spiked and now the tank looks awful. My filter wasnt running right so i decided to clean it now running as new.(cleaned it with tank water only) I know its a bit late but was this ok. Also my tank full of algae is there anything i should to be getting rid of it or should i just leave it. Also how long will i be looking for the nitrite to drop to zero or are all tanks diferent my tank is a 95l fluval.
:good: CHEERS smitt

there definately any fish in your tank i hope?

i am currently cycling myself and i am not too experienced but i would just get an algae scraper if it is that bad. i am doing a fishy cycle so i would say water change but i dont think you need to if its fishless. supposively it takes about a week or two for nitrite to drop to zero. i would also suggest bio-spira. it worked great for me as far as i can tell so far.

Cool just getting bored of waiting got a tank all planted looking good with no fish :shout: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
But i know its for the best so just to have to wait a bit longer. Just didnt know if the algae would disapear once the nitrite had dropped. Got an algae magnet but wasnt sure if the algae was needed as part of the cycle.

in my opinion, the fishy cycle works just as good. i only had two fish die, and one was the first day, the other a week into it. other than that as long as you keep everything under or around .25 ppm, it works great i think. plus you have fish in your tank. just something to think about for next time.

Well this is my second tank my first tank 30l i was told by lfs to run it for a week and add fish then when i started using the forums started getting a bit of grief for not cycling my tank properly. So decided i would do it fishless this time. My first tank been running about 5 weeks all cycled and fish doing well.
