I am about to change out my tank filter. Currently I have the Eclipse bio-wheel, and it really isn't doing much. I like the sump, but besides it looking really complicated, I think set up is a little out of my budget. I am looking at the canister filters and wet/dry filters (Tidlepool, for one). Wouldn't the wet/dry be similar to the sump? Any suggestions/ input on these or others would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Only filter you need is LIVE ROCK.
A external canister filter has its use's. I have mine filled with LIVE ROCK.

How many gallons does your tank hold?.. Buy yourself one and a half lbs of live rock per gallon of water.
And a couple of powerheads to create 20x flow. (gallonage times 20) Then you will need a good skimmer, one that will do a tank bigger than the one you have. Then you will not go far wrong.
Forget all other filters in my opinion .

Live rock is a great filter, but large debris need to be removed from the water. I would go with a canister filter. Buy one that is rated for a tank a little larger than yours. Also, if u decide that you want a little more filtration, you could always hook up a uv sterilizer to the filters tubing.
