Help With Filter Media

I have been given a 33 gallon jewel corner fish tank and I need help with what filter media I should use.
The tank has a big black box (with open slats) inside at the back and inside it there is a thermometer and what looks like a filter head but there is no filter media.
What do I need?

Hello,
When ever i set up a filter its media always starts with mechanical(sponge), then biological(ceramic rings/noodles) and finally a layer of polishing floss which acts the same as mechcanical(sponge) but catches the more smaller debri and gives the aquarium water a polished finish.
