in my 240L tank i have quite a few plants and they seem to be quite healthy. there has been quite a few posts about dosing with liquid fert etc recently so i apologise for adding another
sorry i dont know the prper names but im sure you will get the idea of what i have....off the top of my head i currently have -
2 x anubias nana on wood
2 x larger anubias on wood
6 x amazon swords
3 x echinodorus rose
1 x java fern on wood
25 x dwarf sag (i have a whole corner planted with this so 25 is a guestimate....

all seem to be doing ok except for the amazon swords that got a bashing from a group of silver dollars that have now been removed and rehomed

i am dosing 8ml or easycarbo and 8ml of TPN+ daily as instructed by someone on here. i have no idea about ferts etc so just went with it. my tank is in a conservatory so gets quite a lot of light but non direct it has 1 x aquaglo 40w T8 and 1 x 38 w interpet daytime+ marine T8 tubes that are on from 1600 - 2300 daily.
im getting quite a bit of algae on the glass thats quite annoying, is there anything i can do to try preventing this? more or less ferts etc

if ive not put any info required to help then please just ask and ill add it in.

take it easy as im no scientist

just realised that the T8 interpet tube is only working on 1 side.... so ive now swapped it for 40W powerglo tube i had spare in the garage.

solighting now consists of -

1 x 40w powerglo & 1 x 40w aquaglo tubes.

also would having the lighting in 2 periods of 4 hours help? for example lights on from 1300 - 1700 then off for an hour the back on from 1800 - 2200.

What species of Algae is it? Identify it here:

Different algaes prosper under different conditions, although lots of light does cover then all, 80w of T8 isnt overdoing it though, but the natural light maybe.

Thanks, Aaron

Hi Aaron,

im pretty sure its GDA. sorry forgot to add that

would doing the timer in 2 stints help? or maybe cover the tank in the day while at work...

Algae is too adaptable for using a siesta period. I tried it once and if anything is just reduced the speed of plant growth and there was no difference to algae growth.
Covering the tank would be a better option though.
How long has the tank been setup?

the tanks been set up for for a while now and has been filtered with very mature media from my previous tank. its been planted for about 6 months adding a few at a time

Ok it is probably the excess light then, covering it up through the day is the only way. To get rid of it clean it all off and so a 50-80% water change to remove the spores. Providing you cover the tank it shouldn't return as much over the next few weeks, eventually disappearing completely. If it remains, you could try increasing your TPN+ dose to 12ml daily which is the recommended dose for high tech setups.
Thanks, Aaron
